Arnold’s Back

It’s hard to believe that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jim Lorimer only started the Arnold Classic in 1989. We say this because it feels way longer than just 31 years since the multi-sport festival took shape in Columbus. It’s now the largest multi-sport festival in the nation and toted as “the greatest sports-fitness experience of a lifetime.”

Since its commencement, the festival has grown from just the Arnold Classic Bodybuilding Championships to now include: a 700-booth Arnold Fitness Expo, a Strongman Contest, competitions in fencing, table tennis, cheerleading and dance, skateboarding, figure skating, and even archery. It is truly an all-around fitness Mecca.

It’s also a great opportunity to see up-and-coming sports stars like Brodie and Brendan Scherer, who both excelled in the Arnold Wrestling Challenge nearly three years ago, coming in second in their weight classes. They both have been training since they were four years old.

Then there is Ashley Hill, 20, of Chillicothe, who is currently ranked the number one karate competitor in the USA and was most recently named the 2009 National Karate Champion in Fort Lauderdale. Not to be outdone is Haley Imel, a 16-year-old cheerleading and dance sensation who not only scored first in cheering and second in the dance competition at the 2009 Arnold Sports Festival, she graduated early from high school and paid her first two years at the University of Louisville with scholarships won in competitions, including a record three Columbus Rotary Scholarships won at the Arnold Sports Festival.

This event honestly has something for everyone because it’s not just an event, but an experience. Beyond the events and athletes, you can hit every single one of those 700 booths of leading businesses and organizations showcasing the latest trends in the fitness industry at the EXPO. The EXPO Stage also hosts the Arnold Strongman Classic and prejudging for the Ms. International, Fitness International and Figure International competitions. At $10, that’s the best deal you can get in sports entertainment! Experience it for yourself March 4-7, and visit for a complete schedule of events and ticketing information.
