Vance Whitener - Vintage Vision

Innovative, driven, passionate: three words that ultimately describe
Rag-Q.Rama's President and CEO, Vance Whitener. Add in a vast
knowledge of retail management and an intensely keen sense of
style and you have the makings of one of the most diverse and successful
businessmen in the city.

Within the first year of Whitener's management of the store at 3301
North High Street, the store experienced a 175% increase in salesan
outstanding accomplishment, especially since the majority of the
store's inventory consists of recycled clothes. "I believed in the concept
and I think when you believe in something, it gives it power/ he
says matter-of-factly.

The Clintonville store as well as Whitener's second store location in
SI. Louis, spend close to $30,000 - $50,000 a month purchasing
unique items from customers for the sales floor. Items are selected
based on style, condition, season, color, size, label and rack levels.
After you've traded or sold your own wares, you can then shop the
store for anything from designer to Vintage, perfectly-worn jeans to
kitschy t-shirts, handbags and more.

Even though the store offers new stock on a regular basis, customers
are drawn to the store for the same reason Whitener loves shopping
there-the hope of finding a one-of-a-kind fashion gem hidden in the
racks. "When people leave here empty handed it surprises me," says
Whitener. "Because every time I'm in here I always find something
that I have to have."
